Candle-Making 2022
Acknowledging that Coronavirus remains a serious problem, The Candlemakers will produce beeswax candles again in 2022. However, some past procedures will change, and we shall impose protocols to minimize the chances of infection. Because our workspace is limited, we will:

(1) Operate 3 large fans to draw fresh, outside air through the external door to the lower (wick preparation/food bank) room, draw it up into the upper (hot shop/wax pouring) room, and exhaust it out the external door in that room. This means that the spaces will be neither heated nor cooled, so participants should dress appropriately for “outside” conditions.

(2) Require that all participants be fully vaccinated.

(a) You will not need to show your vaccination/booster card, but if you remain unvaccinated, we ask that you not sign up to participate this year.

(3) Because of the vaccination requirement, wearing masks will be optional, unless pandemic conditions deteriorate again. In that case, we will notify all participants of the need to wear a mask.

(4) Provide appropriate distancing by limiting the number of participants to 10 people in the hot shop and 10 in the wick preparation room.

We expect to make candles from 9 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays, September 6, 13, and 20. Depending on our productivity and user demand, we may extend production to September 27.

Please pre-register for a particular date (or dates) by calling Bobb Carson (610-346-8012). Registrations will be secured on a first-come-first-serve basis, although preference will be given to folks who were unable to participate last year. If there is no answer, please leave your date preferences, whether you’d like to work in the hot shop (wax pouring area) or the wick preparation room, and your phone number and
email address on the answering machine. We’ll confirm or deny your request by phone or email.

Finally, if you register, but find yourself feeling unwell shortly prior to, or on the day that you have scheduled, please do not attend. Your well-being and that of the other participants is far more important than candle production. We look forward to the sounds, smells, and friendships (as well as coffee and doughnuts), that attend our annual candlemaking, and hope that you will be a part of it, in this unusual year.
